Morre em Londres o cantor Jamaicano Ray Mondo

Morreu nesta quarta-feira, 08 de agosto, em Londres, o cantor jamaicano Raymond Riley. Informou seu primo e produtor, Bill Campbell.

Raymond, como era conhecido, nasceu na Jamaica, onde começou sua carreia como cantor. Assim como muitos jamaicanos, ele foi morar em Londres, onde gravou dois álbuns: “I’m In Love e “I Will”, pela World Sound Records, além de outras músicas que foram inseridas em coletâneas pela gravadora.

Na década de 70, o artista lançou na Jamaica, várias canções que, posteriormente, viraram hits em São Luís. Essa explosão demorou um pouco aqui na ilha; somente na década de 90 e meados dos anos 2000, o cantor passou a ser tocado com mais frequência pelas radiolas e programas do gênero. Canções como “For the good times”, “Really Want Me to Go”, “Love I Can Depend On”, “Sorry I’ve Took So Long”, “Pack Your Things”, “Hooked On You” e “Gimme Some Time” são algumas das suas mais belas músicas.

In Memoriam: Lloyd Ricketts

Na última quinta-feira, dia 21/07, faleceu o cantor jamaicano Lloyd Ricketts, aos 63 anos de idade.
Após muitos anos longe dos palcos, Ricketts havia recém retornado a tocar com os antigos parceiros do grupo The Itals.
Mais uma notícia triste para os fãs de reggae. Faleceu na última quinta-feira (21/07) o cantor Lloyd Ricketts, um dos membros fundadores do trio vocal The Itals.
Ricketts tinha 63 anos de idade, e faleceu na Jamaica. As causas de sua morte ainda não foram divulgadas.
Ao lado dos vocalistas Keith Porter e Ronnie Davis, Lloyd Ricketts formou em meados dos anos 70 o grupo The Itals.
O grupo lançou muitos álbuns e singles de sucesso, como "Ina Dis Ya Time" e "Brutal Out Deh", entre outros.
Na metade final dos anos 80, Ricketts acabou sendo preso e, impossibilitado de viajar, foi substituído por David Isaacs.
David Isaacs acabou falecendo em dezembro de 2009, e novamente o trio vocal The Itals precisava ser remontado.

Após mais de 20 anos sem conseguir obter um visto para tocar nos EUA, no início deste mês Lloyd Ricketts finalmente conseguiu se juntar aos antigos parceiros Keith Porter e Ronnie Davis.
Com a formação original dos Itals de volta, o grupo realizou duas apresentações em recentes festivais na América do Norte. Os três integrantes do grupo estavam bastante animados com a reunião dos membros originais do Itals, e já preparavam uma série de novos shows.
Mas quis o destino que Ricketts novamente ficasse de fora do The Itals.
