Morre o Lendário Cantor Jamaicano David Isaacs, ex-integrante do The Itals!

O cantor jamaicano David Isaacs, também conhecido como Bruce Bennett, faleceu na noite de 21 de dezembro de 2009, em Kingston, capital jamaicana. Ele é melhor lembrado por ter sido integrante de um dos grupos harmoniosos mais importantes da história do reggae, o The Itals. David estava dormindo no chão devido à sua cama estar ocupada por um hóspede.

Pela manhã, sua irmã foi lhe perguntar sobre algumas roupas para lavar e percebeu imediatamente que ele estava morto, supostamente por um ataque cardíaco.

David Isaacs era presença praticamente certa no Rebel Salute, em janeiro de 2010. Em 1968, Isaacs gravou a versão "A Place in the Sun", original de Stevie Wonder, que foi produzido pelo não menos lendário Lee "Scratch" Perry, sendo uma das gravações responsáveis por tornar a Trojan Records uma das maiores potências do reggae. A música foi regravada no álbum de estréia de Isaacs entitulado "A Place in the Sun", lançado em 1976.

Em 1979, Isaacs gravou "Just Like the Sea", em parceria com o DJ Jah Thomas, e lançou o segundo álbum, "More Love", produzido por Witty Reid.

Em 1982, ele se juntou com Winston "Niney" Holness para gravar o álbum "Happy Ending" - lançado pela Dynamic Sounds - o qual precedeu "Love & Devotion", um belíssimo álbum em meio a precariedade do estilo na década de 80. Na mesma época, David entra para o grupo The Itals, com o qual visitou o Brasil em 2001.

Vale lembrar o time de músicos que participou do "Love & Devotion": Robbie Shakespeare, Errol "Flabba" Holt, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Winston Wright, Bobby Ellis, dentre outros. Repeito máximo ao grande David Isaacs, desfalcando ainda mais a nata das lendas-vivas do reggae mundial. Fonte: Surforeggae
