Errol nasceu na Jamaica, mas aos quatorze anos, em 1966, mudou-se para o Reino Unido, onde se estabeleceu em Bristol e mais tarde trabalhou, entre outras coisas, como soldador.
Falando sobre esse período em uma entrevista, ele disse: "Foi um pouco estranho para mim. Eu estava chorando porque queria voltar porque estava tudo escuro e eu vim do sol e não era o que eu esperava. Minha mãe trabalhava para a BRI e também para a Wills Tobacco Factory - era só minha mãe. Não podíamos andar nas ruas. Se andássemos pelas ruas, teríamos que caminhar cerca de quatro ou cinco de nós pela St Pauls and down Governor Road. Minha mãe costumava dizer: "Você não pode ir lá!". Então todos nós permanecemos juntos como uma unidade e foi assim que sobrevivemos."
