Akwasi Kyereme fundou a poderosa banda Root B (eat) Tama em Berlim em 1988, que rapidamente se tornou uma banda top. Nascido e criado em Kumasi Ashanti (Gana) em 1953 como filho de um chefe, Akwasi trabalhou como jóquei, alfaiate e cabeleireiro antes de finalmente se dedicar à música, que sempre foi sua grande paixão. A carreira musical de Akwasi começou na África em 1978, incluindo a Nigéria. Lá ele cantou em bandas que cobriam a batida afro no estilo de Fela Ramson Kuti ou Alpha Blondy. Mas logo se desenvolveu seu interesse pelo reggae, que sempre associou às suas raízes africanas. Em 1984, Akwasi Kyereme mudou-se para Berlim, onde estudou música com ainda mais intensidade. Nesse ínterim, ele se voltou completamente para o reggae e fundou sua primeira banda "African Fyer" em Berlim. Ele também estudou trompete em uma escola de música. Com sua banda Root B Tama, Akwasi finalmente desenvolveu seu próprio estilo reggae, que ele chama de "Asiko Highlife". ^ Akwasi Kyreme Asiko é uma das muitas línguas ganenses. Ele canta muitas de suas canções em sua língua materna, Asiko. A tradição africana desempenha um papel essencial na música e presença de palco desta banda. Sua canção "Kwamah" (apareceu no CD "Esiwano", e é a versão reggae de uma conhecida canção folclórica ganense .) Em 1993, Akwasi produziu seu primeiro CD "Esiwano" muito observado sob seu próprio selo "K. Bantami Hits ", que chegou a ser publicado duas vezes nas paradas americanas . Um crítico de Freiburg escreveu: A música estimula a dança, porque ele groove e balança ... solos de metais habilidosos e refrescantes tornam o CD tão interessante ... O mais legal nele é que a percussão e a bateria são reais. Para mim, o CD Root B Tamas é o melhor CD de reggae dos últimos anos. (Freizeit & Kultur, outubro de 1996) Akwasi Kyereme, conhecido como embaixador da cultura por muitos ganenses que vivem na Alemanha , gostaria de levar a cultura de sua terra natal a um público europeu mais amplo com sua música . Root B Tama também se tornou uma banda de reggae conceituada fora de Berlim. Ela apareceu no Summersplash Festival e como banda de abertura de "Judge Dread", o famoso grupo de reggae da Inglaterra. Várias aparições na televisão e transmissões de rádio ajudaram a banda a se apresentar e a apresentar seu CD "Esiwano" a um público mais amplo. Em 1998, Akwasi lançou seu maxi single "Money No Dey", produzido por ele mesmo, e na primavera de 1999, seu CD "Saneetie".
